Meet Lizzie

I’ve always loved books and writing. When I was a little girl I spent most of my time with my pony – Crest.  Any spare time after that, I was reading and making collages.  It was fun cutting out words and pictures from old magazines and newspapers, putting them together then sticking them onto giant pieces of paper or cardboard to tell a story. I wish I’d taken photos so I could look at them now!

I started writing children’s books when my daughters started primary school. My twins were five when they brought home their first school reader. It took me back to my own childhood and I felt nostalgic. I remembered how much I loved my little readers when I was at school, all those years ago.

When my youngest daughter arrived into the world, something occurred to me… each of my three girls had different ways of learning to read. At first I felt frustrated. Why couldn’t they all read what I asked them to read and at the time that suited me (before it was time to cook the dinner!). Then I realised the important thing was that each would learn to love reading, and it didn’t matter if one sat on the mailbox to do it, so long as they all loved reading!!!

That gave me the idea to write a book and I created a slogan explaining why.

If you think you have a good idea for a story, shhhhh: you probably do… write down your story outline – quickly – while you remember. Then keep your story somewhere safe. You can always go back and finish writing later.

I love thinking about my characters and I imagine meeting them in real life. I wonder whether they’re funny or serious. I wonder how they sound (or purr or bark or even roar) and whether they have a best friend.

Bye for now,
Lizzie
